Welcome to the Occidental Citizen. This is a blog all about the adventures and thoughts of a particular citizen who lives in the Occident (haha).

The Oxi-what?

You read correctly: this blog is named the Occidental Citizen. Though the term "occident" has largely fallen out of use in the English language, it describes the Western world and is the literal antonym of "orient". The meaning of "occido" in Latin is "falling", intended to describe the direction that the Sun sets: the West. So, similar to how Japan is described as the Land of the Rising Sun, the Occident is the Land of the Setting Sun (how ominous!).

This Site

The specifics of what this blog will cover are still being worked out, but here are some topics that the author intends to write about:

• Observations of Culture, both on & off the Internet
• Interesting Pieces of History
• Muses on books, movies, and other media in the Occident
• Similar muses on media in the Orient

Do note that this website is a work-in-progress. It's still pretty barebones, so many "modern" features of a blog are not implemented yet. These include:

• A Newsletter
• A way to contact the author
• A way to financially support the author
